‘Three car-free months’ was a mobility pilot project carried out by Umeå municipality in 2019, during which the participants had to live their everyday lives for three months without using their cars. The municipality selected ten households with diverging numbers of children in different age groups to participate among the 170 applicants. The families got to borrow electric bikes, there were bus passes for free for the whole family, access to an electric cargo bike-sharing service and discounted access to a carpool.
