Riga Technical University, Riga City Council and Riga District Heating Utility jointly call on every Latvian citizen to re-consider their behaviour and habits and reduce energy consumption with the overarching aim of very significantly decreasing Latvia’s dependence on imported energy resources, which are fossil ones, and to develop alternatives to them. The call is based on both economic, geopolitical (among these, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine) and climate change arguments. Short-term activities can be based on re-considering energy consumption behaviour (also including smart technical devices for energy consumption management); the campaign will provide advice and science-based recommendations on how to do it; citizens are also invited to share their experiences on social media. Long-term action relates to significant energy efficiency increases, particularly in buildings and the industrial sector, including energy efficiency investments in buildings and technologies, the implementation of energy management systems, and the active use of renewable resources (solar and wind) not only in individual but also in district heating systems. The call (campaign) was announced on 11 March 2022.
The new Call (campaign) to Action “Be Energy United for Latvia’s Energy Independence”, addressed to Latvia’s People Aicinājums Latvijas iedzīvotājiem kļūt energovienotiem, vairojot Latvijas enerģētisko neatkarību
