The low-heat power plant in Kópsvatn, Hrunamannahreppur

A local community with a small-scale geothermal power project. The municipality of Hrunamannahreppur and the local heat utility in Flúdir have reached an agreement with the company Varmaorka to cooperate in the production of low-temperature geothermal electricity. The partners established a new company called Flúdaorka that operates the power plant. The well produces water at 120°C. After the utilization of excess heat, the water is mostly used for house heating in Flúðir and elsewhere at 85°C. The power plant creates enough electricity for 2,400 homes.
