The Polish capital, Warsaw, joined the Covenant of Mayor’s initiative, signed it in 2009, and submitted the Sustainable Energy Action Plan in 2011. The city committed to having an 80% reduction of CO2 emissions as well as an 80% reduction of energy consumption and at least 20% of energy produced from RES in 2020. The key activities are the modernization of indoor, outdoor and street lighting, the complex retrofitting of residential and municipal buildings, and the greening of the transport system. The action plan also involves climate adaptation and energy poverty reduction measures.
