The village of Luče in the Savinjska Valley has become the first self-sufficient energy community in Slovenia. Petrol (the largest Slovenian energy company), together with its partners Elektro Celje (a local electric utility company) and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, took care of the technical integration of the network as part of the Compile project. The system in Luče represents the first such energy community in Slovenia that can fully cover its needs for electricity only based on production from renewable sources. The Luče energy community was established as a pilot site within the EU-funded project COMPILE.
