Kisielice, Poland’s first self-sufficient community, an agriculture-based town, now generates more electricity than it needs. Wind turbines, a biomass plant and photovoltaic panels already produced 100% of the energy demand in 2014. Visionary leadership, the involvement of investors and participatory processes made it possible for the town to escape the difficult economic situation in the early 90s.
