The countryside community of Alvitas was lent the former building of Alvitas library for community needs. The building was not used for some time, was cold, with an outdated boiler, and thus had very limited use. The biomass boiler was adapted to use straw fuel because rural communities could afford to use the straw that was usually left (or burnt) in the fields. The aims of the project were reducing heating costs, reducing environmental pollution and using the residue of straw. The project was implemented together with a building renovation project, during which the old windows were replaced, and some repairs were done. System installation year was 2005, with an expected service lifetime for the system of 15 years.
