FISU – Finnish Sustainable Communities

Fisu (Finnish Sustainable Communities) is a network of pioneering communities that aims to achieve zero emissions, waste-free and globally sustainable consumption by 2050. The network consists of 11 municipalities. In each member municipality, the local authorities, together with companies and other local actors, are building a shared vision and roadmap to achieve the goals. They identify new opportunities for collaboration and ways of doing things. The aim is to strengthen the municipal and regional economy, create jobs and promote sustainable well-being. The network works according to the ‘resource wisdom model’ that includes work with road maps that are monitored using three key indicators: GHG emissions, material loss, and ecological footprint.
