Phasing out fossil fuels increases the demand for biomass resources. The Gražiškės community in the surrounding eldership-owned lands is not appropriate for farming needs, with hilly areas where farming is not favourable due to lots of rain or drought, and small farms dominate. Thus, the community and several small farmers decided to create an energy plantation (around 30 ha).
